Hyderabad: The Telangana government has started issuing Shishu Aadhar cards to newborns in government hospitals. The initiative aims to help create identities for babies.
Dr Mohammad Mazharullah, Medical Director of Golconda District Hospital, said, “The Telangana government is issuing Shishu Aadhar cards for newborns in Telangana. This is led by Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao and Health Minister Harish Rao The newborn is being registered for the Shishu Aadhar card.” He said the mother’s Aadhar card and Aadhar number are mandatory. If not available, father’s Aadhar card can also be used.
“We release within 24 hours of the birth of a child. This is the first time it has been rolled out in Telangana. I thank the Telangana government, CM and Health Minister and Family Welfare Commissioner,” he added.
Sai Baba, DEO of Golconda District Hospital, said: “CM launched the ‘Shishu Aadhar Card’ initiative. This is rolled out only in government hospitals. Aadhar cards are issued before babies are discharged. We go to patients and apply for Aadhar online in front of them. They can view and download the cards online within 15 days. They will receive their cards by post within 45 days. The program has been in operation for 6 months. As a pilot project, 45 centers were set up in the first phase. The first phase of the initiative Phase two has also been launched. Since November last year, we have issued about 30 Aadhar cards under this initiative.”
Sravanthi, a mother of a beneficiary newborn, said, “I recommend everyone to ask the government hospital for this benefit. I am glad we got this. I thank the Telangana government.” Another mother of a beneficiary child Afrin Jabin said, “I just gave birth to a baby girl 4 days ago. I am so happy to have made an Aadhar card for my baby. I thank the Chief Minister.”
