K Vasudeva Reddy said the Telangana state government is spending Rs 830 crore on the welfare of the disabled in the state.
Hyderabad: K Vasudeva Reddy, chairman of the State Disabled Persons Association, said the state government spends Rs 2,000 crore annually to provide pensions to the state’s 551,000 physically disabled people.
Reddy told reporters here on Tuesday that the government will spend Rs 830 crore for the welfare of the disabled in the state. He said that at the request of the disabled, the government separated the Ministry of Welfare for the Disabled from the Ministry of Women and Children’s Welfare so that the disabled community could receive more benefits.
He said that under the Disabled Persons Act 2016, the government had set up special courts for persons with disabilities in the state. On the occasion of Louis Braille’s birth anniversary on January 4, a 9-foot bronze statue of Louis Braille at the Bhawan Braille Park for the Disabled will be unveiled on Wednesday by SC Welfare Minister Koppula Eshwar and Home Affairs Minister Mohammad . Mahmoud Ali unveiled.
