Telangana HC almost hears plea for CBI probe into poaching case

Hyderabad: Telangana High Court Judge B Vijaysen Reddy on Friday heard the virtual trial from Senior Counsel Mahesh Jethmalani of the three main accused in the MLA poaching case.

Continuing to hear the batch of motions pertaining to the case, the judge, at Jethmalani’s request, heard Jethmalani via videoconference with limited participation by the associated counsel.

Summing up the case, Jethmalani said the entire state apparatus in the case was operating under the leadership of the Chief Minister. He argued that due to the interest of the state government in the case, the Special Investigation Team (SIT) could not conduct the investigation impartially, noting that senior state police officers were themselves witnesses, investigative agencies and prosecutors.

He also argued that plaintiff pilot Rohit Reddy MLA had defected from Congress to TRS and was filing defection charges against the BJP. Citing multiple Supreme Court judgments, Jethmalani stressed that the investigation should be handed over to the CBI or other agencies not under the control of the state government.

The judges will now hear the BJP’s arguments on December 13.
