Sidi Pete: On Wednesday, the irrigation department has started pumping Godavari water into the Ranganayaka Sagar project.
The project has a water storage capacity of 3 TCMft and now only has 0.7TMCft of water as most of the water is used to meet the irrigation needs of the last Yasangi. As a precautionary measure, the state government has decided to run one pump a day for six days, drawing 2TCMft of water. These pumps only run 12 hours a day during the day. Each pump can pump 3,400 cusecs of water.
Finance Minister T Harish Rao released the water into the reservoir by turning on the lift pump at Ranganayaka Sagar on Wednesday night. Irrigation authorities said they would run all four pumps during those six days in preparation for the season. The state government is considering providing irrigation water for Vanakalam crops from Ranganayaka Sagar in the near future.
