Hyderabad: Students, research scholars, historians and history buffs will soon be able to access the archives of the Telangana National Archives and Institute with the click of a button as the institute soon launches a digital library.
First, former Hyderabad Secretariat documents from 1896, GAD Departmental records from 1890 to 1947, Persian records from 1880 to 1880, land grant transactions and Army records related to the Nizam period will be available in the digital library Available in . After that, a staggering 155,000 historical records related to the periods of Shah Jahan and Aurangzeb will be preserved in digital libraries.
Initially, the Institute will make the content of the archives available as reference material in the digital library and will provide hard copies of the material upon request at a fee to the user. To this end, the institute is designing a new website. Access to the digital library will be through a user ID and password.
History buffs and research scholars should register with the Institute and then obtain a user ID and password to access content. For this digital library, the institute has started the digitization of records. After digitization, a catalog is created for each record and hosted in a digital library. To date, the institute has successfully digitized more than 25,000 records.
The Institute has been preserving and preserving a treasure trove of more than 43 million documents, including the second oldest record in the country – a farmer from Firoz Shah Bahmani of the 14th century Bahmani Sultanate. The Farman dates back to May 14, 1406 AD and is handwritten in Persian for granting land as ‘inam’ to Moulana Muhammad Qazi.
Of the 43 million documents, 90% are in Persian and Urdu. In a few months, the institute will open its revamped Archives Museum. The museum will feature the second oldest document in the country after 200 other important records.
