Telangana Police are using Central Equipment Identity Registration (CEIR) Portal to stop stolen or lost mobile phones

Hyderabad: Telangana police tracked down 9,720 stolen or lost mobile phones in almost 100 days and successfully unblocked 4,083 phones before handing them over to their owners.
Telangana Police is using the Central Device Identity Registration (CEIR) portal to deter theft or loss of mobile phones. Telangana Police trained its officers to use the CEIR developed by the Department of Telecommunications and provided login IDs to all 780 police stations in the state.
Between April 20 and July 23, police blocked 49,621 mobile phones. Deputy Attorney-General Mahesh Murlidhar Bhagwat is regularly monitoring the progress of the complaint. “In the past 16 days, we managed to trace 1,000 mobile phones,” he said.
The highest contribution from Telangana is Cyberabad – 554, Rachakonda – 321, Warangal – 300 and Hyderabad – 265.
