Telangana prepares for Kanti Velugu's second phase

The Municipal Commissioner has been instructed to provide suitable government accommodation for the conduct of the Kanti Velugu camp.

Hyderabad: As Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao is likely to launch the second phase of Kanti Velugu on January 18, urban local bodies (ULBs) across the state have been directed to make detailed arrangements for the scheme.

The adult population will be screened for vision problems at the ward level for 100 days. To this end, the MAUD department has directed the Municipal Commissioners to ensure proper logistical support for the successful implementation of the program.

Municipal Commissioners have been instructed to provide suitable government accommodation in ULBs to carry out Kanti Velugu camps at constituency level. Camp locations will be finalized in consultation with the relevant DMHO and urban primary health center medical staff.

Instructions have been issued to the City Commissioner to make the necessary logistical arrangements, including the provision of chairs, drinking water and toilet facilities at the site for the convenience of those attending the camp. They were instructed to ensure uninterrupted power supply and sanitation on the camp grounds.

ULB staff will be deployed on site to properly coordinate camp arrangements and conduct. Municipal commissioners were also directed to assist the DMHO in mobilizing the public to attend medical camps.

The Government of Telangana launched the Kanti Velugu program on 15 August 2018. The five-month, Rs 1,060 crore program provides eye screening for the entire population of the state.

As part of the program, eye screening tests, glasses and medication are provided, in addition to arranging surgeries and other treatments for those in need free of charge.
