A newly established dialysis center is ready for completion at the government district hospital in Manugur, Kothagudem district.
Kota Gooden: That’s good news for impoverished kidney patients who need dialysis. For convenience, the government hospital in Kothagudem district will soon open two more dialysis centers.
Due to the increased load on existing dialysis centres, many named dialysis patients are waiting their turn and the state government has approved three dialysis centers to provide treatment free of charge in the area.
Two new dialysis centers have been established at Manugur Government District Hospital and Yelandu Community Health Centre. They are both due to be inaugurated on Wednesday and will relieve the burden on the existing centre. The third dialysis center in Aswaraopet is expected to be completed by the end of this month.
Currently, 10 machines are running dialysis centers at the Government General Hospital in Kothagudem and the Government District Hospital in Bhadrachalam. But they cannot meet the needs of the growing number of dialysis patients.
About 300 patients are being treated at Kothagudem and Bhadrachalam hospitals, according to officials. Patients from different parts of the region have to travel to these centers for treatment. Nearly 150 patients are waiting their turn.
Speaking of Telangana today, Dr. Ravi Babu, District Coordinator of Hospital Services (DCHS), informed that the establishment of the new centers will cost Rs.5 million each. Each center will provide patients with five dialysis machines.
With the completion of the new center, patients can get free dialysis services locally. The spending burden hitherto will be reduced. Efforts are underway to open a third dialysis center at community health center Aswaraopet by the end of May, he said.
