Angels: Music is a word that automatically comes to mind for those born in the 80s and 90s who grew up listening to MTV. The channel is undoubtedly responsible for a music video revolution. And now, Sunday night, the 2023 MTV Movie and TV Awards. guess what? Singer Taylor Swift was a big winner in this year’s competition. Her song “Carolina” was named Best Song at the MTV Movie and TV Awards, Variety reported. “Carolina” is out in 2022 and appears in the movie “Where the Crawdads Sing.”
Written solo by 32-year-old Swift and produced by frequent collaborator Aaron Desner, “Carolina” features the grim voice of the 11-time Grammy winner as she sings as she sneaks through locations Not to be seen, which is reminiscent of the plot of the movie. “Into the mists, into the clouds / No, you don’t see me here,” Swift croons in a slow-paced cut of the soundtrack. “They’ll throw a feast, and I’ll count/Carolina knows.”
Swift shared the story behind the song on Instagram, “About a year and a half ago, I wrote a song that told an unbelievable story about a girl who was always on the outside , looking in. Figuratively and literally. Her loneliness and independence juxtaposed. Her longing and her stillness. Her curiosity and fear, all entangled. Her obsessive tenderness…and the world’s betrayal of it. I Wrote this alone in the middle of the night, then @aarondessner and I crafted a voice that we felt was real at the moment this story happened. I wish you’d hear it one day.”
This year’s MTV Movie and TV Awards face a series of obstacles due to the ongoing strike by the Writers Guild of America. While the awards ceremony was scheduled to be broadcast live on Sunday, due to the strike, the network announced it would air a pre-recorded special, as several attendees announced they were quitting the show, Variety reported.
“As we carefully explored how best to hold a fan-first awards show, we envisioned our team working so hard to create that we were moving away from live events, which still allowed us to create a memorable night full of exclusive sneak peeks for our audience. Already looking forward to the irreverent categories, as well as countless moments of surprise and delight, as we honor the best of film and television over the past year,” said Bruce Gilmer, president of Paramount Music, Music Talent, Programs and Events executive producer of Global and the MTV Movie & TV Awards said in a statement.
