Hyderabad: Hyderabad’s Eid al-Adha celebrations are witnessing social change as apartment blocks replace detached houses and joint families adopt a nuclear family culture.
Contrary to the usual practice of buying goats or sheep from local markets, transporting them to their homes, feeding them for a few days and then slaughtering them in Bakrid, families now prefer to hand over this task to agencies that provide ‘Qurbani services’.
“This service is ideal for families living in apartment buildings as there is practically no room to raise sheep and arrange sacrifices. Several families live in a small space so activities are difficult unless the building society properly plans the event ,” said Tolichowki resident Syed Mubasheer.
Kulbani service is basically a platform where service providers help people choose a sheep or goat to sacrifice and sacrifice them at some remote location or event after charging a fee on any of the three days of Eid al-Adha Animal hall and deliver the meat to the customer.
“The meat is delivered to the door in neatly packed boxes and the family can continue the distribution process according to their convenience,” said Zeeshan Ahmed, who started Qurbani Service a few years ago.
The shortage of butchers or finding a butcher at the right time is also a major challenge forcing people to choose Kulbani service providers. “Some people pay the butchers a 50% advance and book their services a few weeks before the festival. Also, local butchers don’t come to houses that only kill one or two sheep. Families with more than five sheep, because the income is higher,” said Mubin Ahmed, another service provider.
