This green crusader points the way

Sidi Pete: A lesson in Kotagiri Srinivas Goud’s sixth grade English textbook changed the way he saw and thought about plants.

After taking a “Plant a Tree” course 37 years ago, Goode decided to plant saplings and devoted his life to plant conservation. He devoted his life to planting, watering, protecting trees, and raising awareness by distributing plants.

Born and raised in Chinna Gundavelly village, Siddipet mandal, Goud started class 6 at ZPHS Pulluru in 1984 when his teacher, Sudarshan Acharyulu, emphasized the importance of tree planting. This had a huge impact on the thinking of the young Goode. In 1984, he began planting eucalyptus trees on his family property. In 1991, with trees starting to wither due to lack of rain and water, Good dug a 50-foot well by himself, but could find no water. He then rides his bicycle to fetch water from great distances to protect the plants. The well in the village is still there.

Goud went on to complete his masters and bachelor studies, traveled barefoot from Siddipet to Hyderabad, visited many villages, colleges and industries and planted many trees in 2016. He planted saplings at Osmania University, Nizam College and Secunderabad College. While volunteering as a teacher at ZPHS Burugupally in 2009, he planted the saplings that have grown into trees. Goode also prepared thousands of seed balls and scattered them on government land and forested areas.
In an interview with Telangana Today, Goud said that in his lifetime he traveled close to 6,000 km and traveled to many places for reforestation and educating people.

Despite teaching at government degree colleges, schools and many other institutions in the past, Goode now runs a nursery to make ends meet. With the support of his stepbrother Ganesh Kumar, Goud runs a nursery near the Government Degree College in Siddipet. Ganesh said he used to travel by bike with his brother, bringing plants and buckets. During the summer months, Goud’s daily job is to water the plants by filling water in buckets and tanks connected to the circulation, he said.

He has a place in Linka’s record books as he walked thousands of kilometers and planted 200,000 saplings in his lifetime. His name is also featured in Astonishing World Records, Book of World Records Miracles, Telugu Book of World Records and Telangana Book of World Records.
