A couple, Ranjith and Nirmala, claimed that their children were swapped with others.
Vijayawada: A dead three-day-old baby has lain unclaimed in a morgue for a week after his alleged parents refused to accept the baby, accusing the hospital of switching babies while demanding DNA tests.
A couple, Ranjith and Nirmala, claimed that their children were swapped with others.
They allege they were told by hospital staff earlier that their baby weighed 1.9 grams, but some time later the hospital said the baby had to be transferred to intensive care because of its low weight.
According to them, the hospital replied that after removing the diapers, the baby lost 400 grams of weight. The parents further claimed that the baby was not the one they first saw.
Two days later, on November 12, the hospital notified the two that the child had died.
Ranjith claimed while talking to ANI that the dead child was not his son and that’s why he denied taking the body. He also requested a DNA test on the case.
“The child was born at 1:22 pm on the 9th of this month. According to the hospital records, we were admitted at 4:05 pm. I suspect that the ID number has been changed repeatedly. In addition, a girl was entered in the prescription for collecting blood samples And not the boy. Against the background of so many doubts, I believe that the child who died was not my child, but my child was replaced. I will not bury the child in the mortuary until the DNA report is out,” Ranjith told ANI.
However, a baby change is unlikely to happen, according to the hospital. Saubhagyalakshmi, director of the government hospital, told ANI that the baby was underweight, had been in the hatching stage and died of organ failure, which she only learned about through the media.
“By getting the details, we can clearly see that no errors have occurred. Indeed, some mistakes have been made by our doctors and staff. Errors have been made by our staff in changing the child’s birth time and changing the ID number. They even mistakenly mentioned it was a girl in the blood sample prescription. If the father wants a video of the baby, then it’s our fault for not giving it.” However, she said baby changes were unlikely and they were ready to proceed. DNA test.
“A baby change is unlikely to happen. I will take action on the mistakes made by our doctors and staff. We are also ready to do a DNA test. It will take 45 days to get the report and by then we have all the facilities to hold the child’s body ,” she went on.
Police also responded to the incident and said they were investigating the matter. Circle Inspector Suresh told the ANI that they had asked Ranjith to undergo a DNA test and based on the statements given, “no conviction” was possible.
“On 14th November, a man named Ranjith came to our police station and filed a complaint against the doctors and staff of the government hospital. We have called the doctors and hospital staff to the police station to inquire about the incident. We have received from them The information was collected and a copy of the statement was sent to the superintendents of the two government hospitals. They were ready for DNA testing. We have asked Ranjith for testing as we cannot register a case without a conviction,” he said.
