Hyderabad: Three people were killed and two were seriously injured in a tragic crash on the Tirupati-Srikalahasti highway on Thursday. The accident happened at Merlapaka pond in Erpedu Mandal, Tirupati district, when a car traveling from Tirupati to Telangana collided with an APSRTC bus. The couple and their child died at the scene. Locals immediately rushed the injured to Ruya Hospital in Tirupati.
According to Erpedu CI Srihari, the dead have been identified as Venkatamma, Ashok and Sanchari, all residents of Divanpalle, Mahabababad district, Telangana state. They are returning home from Tirupati after completing their darshan at Tirumala Venkateswara Temple. He added that the injured were in critical condition.
The cause of the accident is still under investigation. However, police suspect the driver of the car may have been speeding.
