Hyderabad: After almost a decade of losses, Telangana Road Transport Corporation (TSRTC) posted good earnings in 2022. It entered the new year on a positive note, with a multi-pronged strategy to drive the company to profitability.
The authority has now launched a 100-day “profit challenge” for staff to increase bus traffic this year.
In 2022, the RTC is very successful in generating profits from 26 of the 98 bus stops statewide. However, the top 10 losers are from the Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) area.
In the past few months, the authorities have organized profit challenges for employees during various festivals like Dasara, Raksha Bandhan, Deepavali, Sravana Masam, etc., which has helped to increase the revenue of many warehouses as compared to previous years.
Following the success of the program, management embarked on a three-month, 100-day “Profit Challenge” to create competition among the bus factories and increase profits.
Target April:
As part of the challenge, RTC officials have directed bus drivers and conductors to gradually increase daily traffic and revenue.
Station managers were mentored and trained, and in turn, they trained bus drivers and conductors in up to 15 verticals. Employees at all bus stations are struggling to break even for the company, officials said.
Currently, 26 bus stations are profitable, 10 stations are losing Rs 1 lakh a day, 10 stations are losing less than Rs 2 lakh and another 20 stations are turning around.
According to the official, the top 10 oil depots with the largest losses currently belong to the GHMC area. The focus now is to make the bus station profitable, thereby reducing the company’s losses for the financial year.
