Different ‘badges’ posted on Weibo platform are latest indicator of changing Twitter landscape
Release Date – 12:45 AM, Wed – 12 December 22
Hyderabad: Twitter is changing, there’s no denying it. The release of different “badges” on the Weibo platform is the latest indicator of the changing Twitter landscape.
Last month, Elon Musk rolled out the paid verification feature. For $8, you can get the blue tick, a symbol of authenticity on the platform.
However, it appears that the planning and execution was poor due to the emergence of multiple fake profiles on the platform. Accounts are also impersonating Musk.
After causing such an uproar, the feature was shelved. Now with Twitter Blue, the feature will be reintroduced, only this time for an extra $11 for Apple users.
Before Musk, anyone eligible could apply for a blue tick for free. Who gets the blue tick, however, is entirely at the discretion of Twitter officials, which Musk believes is unfair. Hence the introduction of paid blue tokens, gray tokens and more recently gold tokens.
As mentioned, blue ticks can be purchased by anyone. Accounts that previously had an official label or a gray checkmark will now receive a gold checkmark. It was distributed only to some business accounts on Twitter, as opposed to earlier gray checkmarks, which were given to politicians, influencers, news outlets and others.
Now, the gray checkmark no longer has an “official” status, but it will contain information about the country the account is from and will only be available to selected government accounts.
With blue, gold and gray taking over the platform, one wonders if the move is really about making Twitter free or just an attempt to confuse users into believing it.

Top Cryptocurrency Entrepreneur Arrested
Some people see investing in cryptocurrencies as an easy way to earn extra income, others see it as risky. The latest arrest warrant for FTX founder and CEO Sam Bankman-Fried tipped the scales toward the latter.
The former billionaire who runs the world’s largest cryptocurrency exchange was criminally charged by U.S. prosecutors and arrested in the Bahamas.
His firm, which filed for bankruptcy in November, struggled to raise funds after traders withdrew some $6 billion from the platform in just 72 hours.
