San Francisco: Police arrived at Twitter’s (now X) San Francisco headquarters as crews began removing letters from iconic vertical signage.
Workers used an aerial work platform vehicle, also known as a cherry picker, to remove the metal sign, the San Francisco Standard reported.
After a while, the San Francisco police arrived and called a stop to work.
Work on the site has ceased, leaving the word “Twitter” with only the letters “er” and the bird logo in place.
Someone on Twitter received a work order to remove the sign, but did not notify security or the building owner, according to police. The confusion led to a police call.
“Officers assigned to Tenderloin Station responded to the 10th and Market Street area to reports of possible unauthorized street closures,” a police spokesperson said in an email.
“Through investigations, police have determined that no crime was committed and the incident has nothing to do with police.”
Additionally, Observer Wayne Sutton tweeted that Twitter owner Elon Musk did not have permission for the crane, so police stopped construction. Musk clarified on Tuesday: “Twitter was acquired by X Corp both to ensure free speech and as an accelerator for X, the app for everything.
It’s not just a company changing its name, it’s doing the same thing. “
“When a Twitter name was just a 140-character message back and forth — like a bird chirping — now you can post almost anything, including hours of video.”
He further said that in the coming months, the firm will add comprehensive communications and the ability to engage “the whole financial world.”
“Twitter’s name doesn’t make sense in this context, so we have to say goodbye to the bird,” he added. On Sunday, Musk began hinting at the change with a series of tweets, one of which began: “Soon we will be saying goodbye to the Twitter brand and gradually saying goodbye to all birds.”
The “X” logo has now replaced Twitter’s blue bird on the platform’s web page.
Musk also changed the name of the company’s official account and its picture to “X” on the platform. He also shared a photo of Twitter’s headquarters with the new logo projected on it.
The Twitter owner also said that “X.com” now points to “twitter.com.”
