New Delhi: Starting next month, Twitter will allow news publishers to charge users per article, Elon Musk said on Sunday.
After announcing new monetization features for content creators, the Twitter CEO now aims to help media companies amid a global economic meltdown that has seen several publications pay staff and close projects .
“Launching next month, the platform will allow media publishers to charge users per article with one click,” Musk said.
This will make users who wouldn’t sign up for a monthly subscription pay a higher per-article price when they want to read the occasional article.
“This should be a major win-win for media outlets and the public,” Musk added.
Earlier on Saturday, Twitter said creators around the world can now sign up and make a living on Twitter through “monetization” tools.
Musk said that all proceeds will be donated to content creators, and Twitter will not retain any proceeds for the time being.
“We’ll keep 10% after 12 months, but the iOS/Android subscription fee drops from 30% to 15% in year 2, so it’s still a net gain for creators,” Twitter’s CEO declared.
For many, “this represents a significant source of income, allowing them to devote more time to creating great content for you,” he adds.
At the same time, Twitter also applied “community notes” to advertising.
“Our goal is for this platform to be the most truth-seeking, or in other words, the least truth-seeking compared to everything else,” Musk said.
