Hyderabad: Two women died after giving birth at a government-run hospital in Hyderabad on Friday, sparking protests from their relatives.
Relatives of the deceased, who claimed that negligence by doctors had caused the death, sat on a dharna in front of the Malakpet Government District Hospital. They lodged a complaint with the police, demanding that action be taken against the doctors responsible for the negligence.
The two women died while being treated at the government-run Gandhi Hospital, where they were transferred in critical condition
Mahesh, a driver from a village in Nagarkurnool district, took his wife Sri Venella, 23, to hospital on Monday.
She delivered a baby via cesarean section on Wednesday. He said she started shaking after a few hours, but no one cared. The next day, he was told he was not doing well, as his pulse rate dropped and his heart beat faster.
When her condition became critical, staff transferred her to Gandhi Hospital. He said doctors at Gandhi Hospital told her that she had had dengue fever for five days and that her blood platelets had also dropped. She succumbed while receiving treatment.
Mahesh is heartbroken as he holds his newborn daughter. He demanded justice from the authorities.
Jagadish, a software engineer from Tirupati, Andhra Pradesh, and his wife Shivani were admitted to the hospital on January 10 to give birth. The next day, she delivered a baby via C-section. Subsequently, her blood sugar and blood pressure levels dropped, and the doctor asked him to take her to Gandhi Hospital for observation. However, her condition turned critical and she died hours later.
Jagadish was devastated when he lost his wife within hours of giving birth to his first child.
