London: As the world grapples with the challenges and opportunities presented by the rapid development of artificial intelligence, UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak has announced that the UK will host the first major global summit on artificial intelligence (AI) safety.
A summit to be held in the UK this autumn will consider the risks of artificial intelligence, including leading-edge systems, and discuss how they can be mitigated through internationally coordinated action. It will also provide a platform for countries to work together to further develop a common approach to mitigating these risks, a press release from the Prime Minister’s Office said on Wednesday.
The summit will bring together key countries, leading tech companies and researchers to agree on security measures to assess and monitor the most significant risks posed by artificial intelligence (AI).
“Breakthroughs in AI are constantly improving our lives – from enabling paralyzed people to walk to discovering superbugs that kill antibiotics. But AI is developing very rapidly and this pace of change requires agile leadership. This is how the UK takes action because we have a global responsibility to ensure the safe, responsible development and adoption of this technology,” the release said.
“Artificial intelligence has incredible potential to make our lives better. But we need to make sure it is developed and used in a safe and secure manner,” said Sunak, who is expected to meet U.S. President Joe Bypass on Thursday. Discuss this topic immediately.
“No single country can do this alone. It will require a global effort. But with our vast expertise and commitment to an open, democratic international system, the UK will stand with our allies and lead the way,” he asserted .
