Hyderabad: The Faculty of Chemistry at the University of Hyderabad (UoH) has established specialized laboratories for flow chemistry and process intensification under the Institute of Excellence (IoE) scheme.
Flow chemistry and continuous manufacturing offer several advantages over traditional batch processes practiced in chemical laboratories and industry for over a century, including faster reaction times, cheaper and more flexible production, and minimal waste generation .
The laboratory was established under the guidance of Professor Ashwini Kumar Nangia, Dean of the Faculty of Chemistry, and Professor Perali Ramu Sridhar, a synthetic carbohydrate chemist, and their PhD students and postdocs.
UoH Vice-Chancellor Professor BJ Rao said the new facility gave them the opportunity to easily train students and researchers in the field. “Flow chemistry provides tuning of reaction conditions, which helps to explore a rich landscape of reaction conditions,” added Prof. Rao.
