Nalgonda: Tensions in Veerlapalem came as congressional staff attempted to stage a protest near the Yadadri thermal power plant to demand justice for farmers whose land was seized by the state government for the project.
Minutes before the arrival of Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao, about 15 to 20 Congress workers, led by District Council Committee Chairman Kethavath Shankar Naik, attempted to stage a protest near the thermal power plant.
They attempted to stage a sit-in and demand compensation from the evicted people based on the value of the land on the open market. They also required the cultivators of the podu land to obtain pattas.
The police detained them and transferred them to the police station in Damarcherla.
