Around 250 students belonging to Telangana are believed to be studying at various educational institutions in and around Imphal

Hyderabad: As many as 72 students and civilians from Telangana state were stranded in the violent Manipur state on Monday afternoon when they were evacuated and put on a direct flight from Imphal to Hyderabad. They arrived at Rajiv Gandhi International Airport in Sharm Shabad at 1.22pm by a special plane. Another 34 people are expected to arrive in Hyderabad via Kolkata on Monday night.
The remaining 130 students from Telangana will arrive in Hyderabad by air in two batches on Monday night and Wednesday morning. Also, some students will arrive in Hyderabad on flights via Raipur, Patna and Bhubaneshwar. About 250 students belonging to Telangana are believed to be studying at various educational institutions in and around Imphal.
Students studying at NIT, IIIT, JIMS, Manipur Agricultural University and several civilians, including a couple from Nirmal Bhainsa town with a five-day-old baby, were brought back safely on Monday. The students and other evacuees thanked the state government for bringing them home safely.

Speaking to the media, Malla Reddy said Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao took special care to ensure the safety of Telangana students and civilians stranded in Manipur. Malla Reddy said arrangements had been made to bring students from Manipur back home by bus and eight dedicated buses had been arranged for this purpose. The state government will take steps to ensure their studies are not affected, the minister said.
A student of Suryapet CH Bharthi said there were about 26 girls on the plane who were from NITs in Manipur. Bharthi said she had contacted BRS MLC K Kavitha and she gave them courage and helped them. Another student from Ghatkesar, Sai Kiran, thanked Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao and IT Minister KT Rama Rao for their quick response.
Principal Secretary A Santhi Kumari and DGP Anjani Kumar formed a task force with a 24/7 control room at the DGP office. The state government has also opened a task force to monitor the situation in Manipur and measures are being taken to ensure the safety of Telangana students and those residing in Manipur. The chief secretary had earlier contacted her Manipur counterparts to facilitate safe crossing of Telangana students from Imphal to Hyderabad.
