Hyderabad: About 50 percent of female victims of human trafficking rings busted by Cyberbad police were found to be from West Bengal on Tuesday, followed by Karnataka at 20 percent.

According to the information collated by the police in the investigation, the extorted women were also found to be from Maharashtra (15%), Delhi (7%) and other states (5%). Several women from Bangladesh, Nepal, Thailand, Uzbekistan, Russia and other countries were also victims of rackets rigged by the organizers.

Cyberabad police chief Stephen Raveendra said brokers abroad posted pictures of women in WhatsApp groups in which prostitution organizers were members. “They select a woman and, after an agreement with a broker, arrange her travel by arranging a tourist visa. Once they land here, the women are sent to customers,” he said.

Female victims get 30 percent of the money collected from patrons, while the rest is pocketed by organizers and other stakeholders. “Organizers make 50 to 70 percent of the profit per customer,” he said.

A full-fledged call center is operating in Delhi, Bangalore and Delhi which takes calls from clients and forwards them to local organizers. Business marketing is done through websites, online advertising portals and other social media platforms.

The Anti-Human Trafficking Unit of the Cyberabad Police will soon raise awareness to prevent women from falling into the trap of organizers or brokers who lure them with high salaries in some private companies and then force them into prostitution.

“Women were promised a life of luxury but were trapped. Sometimes they were given the drug MDMA and forced to bow to the demands of the organizers. Many women and girls came from poor economic backgrounds and some from difficult families, ’ he added.
