Women's cricketers in India to be paid the same as men's

While saying that Indian cricket is moving towards a new era of gender equality, Shah also announced that the BCCI will also implement a pay equality policy for contracted Indian women’s cricket players.

Mumbai: In a landmark moment to tackle gender ‘discrimination’ in cricket, Board of Control for Cricket of India (BCCI) Secretary Jay Shah announced on Thursday that the country’s female cricketers will now receive the same amount of Tournament fee. male counterparts.

While saying that Indian cricket is moving towards a new era of gender equality, Shah also announced that the BCCI will also implement a pay equality policy for contracted Indian women’s cricket players.

“I am delighted to announce that @BCCI has taken the first step towards tackling discrimination. We are implementing a pay equity policy for signed @BCCIWomen cricketers. Match fees for men’s and women’s cricketers will go with us into Indian cricket The new era of gender equality is the same,” Shah said via his official Twitter handle.

“At today’s Apex committee meeting, we made a major decision on pay equity for women cricketers. Our women’s players will receive the same match fees as men’s in international cricket. This decision lays the groundwork for the development and growth of cricket I believe this is an important step forward for women’s cricket and the game as a whole,” BCCI President Roger Binney said in an official statement.

According to the announcement, Indian women’s cricketers will receive the same match fees as their male counterparts, with female and male cricketers receiving INR 1.5 lakh test match fees in ODI matches and INR 60 lakh INR for T20I and 300,000.

This is the first time the men’s and women’s professional competitions in India have been combined under one master agreement.

“This is my commitment to women cricketers and pay equality is an important step towards tackling discrimination. Women cricketers will be paid the same as men to play.”

“This is a landmark decision as we enter a new era of cricket in India. I would like to thank my colleagues on the BCCI Apex Committee,” Shah added.

In July this year, New Zealand announced in a five-year deal that their women’s and men’s cricketers would receive the same fee for matches in all forms at the international and domestic levels.

“This is a revolutionary step in the women’s game and I believe this move will be a motivator for women’s cricket stars now and in the future. A lot has been said about where the women’s game is going and I believe pay equality is a step in that direction “This is an important move, a signature move, and I believe it will keep the race going well,” said BCCI Vice President Rajeev Shukla.

Of course, the same match fee does not imply true pay equality in Indian cricket, as there is a huge difference in the central contract fees for men and women currently offered. But match fee parity is a step in the right direction towards more equality in the future.

“This move will prove to be a game-changer in support of the players of today and tomorrow. Women’s cricket is on the rise and the decision to equal pay for our women’s cricketers is another big part of the BCCI’s ongoing efforts to support the sport I would like to take this opportunity to thank all the members of the BCCI Apex Committee who supported this decision,” said Ashish Shelar, Treasurer of BCCI.

As of now, centrally signed male players have been awarded INR 70 crore, INR 60 crore, INR 30 crore and INR 10 crore in four categories (A+, A, B, C), while female players Earn INR 5 million, INR 3 million and INR 1 million in three tiers (A, B, C). The BCCI has yet to announce the latest contracts for the men’s and women’s players for the upcoming season.

“The Indian women’s cricket team has always been proud of the country with its outstanding performance globally and pay equality is an important initiative that can be appreciated as the team has been working hard to achieve great results.”

“I am delighted that the BCCI Apex Committee has taken this historic decision as women’s cricket in India continues to rise. This landmark decision will undoubtedly help to eliminate gender disparities and encourage More girls are using cricket as a profession.
