Delhi Police on Saturday lodged a status report on protests against applications made by women wrestlers
New Delhi: Delhi Police on Saturday filed a status report on the protesting female wrestlers’ application against Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) president and BJP MP Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh.
Special Prosecutor Atul Shrivastava, appearing on behalf of the Delhi Police, informed Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (ACMM) Harjit Singh Jaspal of Rouse Avenue Court Jaspal), the statement of the “victimized” female wrestler was recorded before a magistrate under section 164 of the CrPC.
ACMM Jaspal directed the police to provide the complainant with the status reports filed on May 12 and May 27, and the complainant was also directed to provide a copy of the application to the police.
The court then announced the matter for its next hearing on June 27.
A Delhi court on Thursday asked the police to file an Actions Taken Report (ATR) on a complaint filed by a social activist and Atal Jan Shakti party chief seeking justice against the wrestler following protests against wrestlers over allegations of sexual harassment against Singh. Vinesh Phogat, Bajrang Punia and Sakshi Malik for FIR registration for making “false allegations” of sexual harassment against Singh.
Another Chief Metropolitan Magistrate of Patiala House Courts, Anamika, has passed the directions on the application filed on behalf of Bam Bam Maharaj Nauhatiya.
On May 12, the police informed the court that a Special Investigation Team (SIT) had been formed to investigate allegations of sexual harassment against Singh.
Famous wrestlers who have achieved Olympic and World Championship glory have been staging a protest at Jantar Mantar against the WFI president since April 23. Several farmer groups also expressed their support for the wrestlers and traveled from the states of Haryana and Punjab to join the protest.
