New Delhi: In the search for the remains of 27-year-old Shraddha Walker, murdered by common-law partner Aftab Ameen Poonawalla, Delhi police on Tuesday collected 10 suspected human samples from the Mehrauli forest area.
The source said the sample had been sent for forensic testing and, if confirmed to be human, would be compared to the victim’s father’s DNA.
“Further searches are underway to find more evidence,” the source said
On Tuesday morning, the police team took Aftab to the Mehrauli forest area for the second time to retrieve the remains of the victim, who had been cut into 35 pieces by the accused.
He was first brought to the area on Monday.
Police said that on May 18, after the defendant cut open the body, he bought a new large-capacity refrigerator the next day and stored the body in it.
To get rid of the stench, he lit incense at home.
Aftab was reportedly inspired by the American crime show “Dexter,” which tells the story of a man with homicidal tendencies living a double life.
As a trained cook, the defendant was skilled with knives, the source said.
However, the murder weapon has not been found.
Over the course of 18 days, he dumped the body parts in various places. To avoid suspicion, he would often leave the house around 2am with his body part in a plastic bag
The matter came to light on 8 November, when the victim’s father and a police team from Palghar, Maharashtra, came to Mehrauli Police Station to register a disappearance complaint.
