Hyderabad: This year, the state government is providing quality treatment to the urban poor by setting up 100 more Basthi Dawakhanas across municipalities and municipal corporations across the state.

This is after the Ministry of Municipal Administration and Urban Development in collaboration with the Ministry of Health established 85 Basthi Dawakhanas in different Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) in the first phase. Encouraged by the success of the first phase, the state government approved 101 Basthi Dawakhanas in the second phase to be established in 63 ULBs. The setup fee for each clinic is Rs 1.32 lakh.

Depending on the population, two or more Basthi Dawakhanas are being established in municipalities and municipal corporations for the convenience of the people. These clinics provide quality services during the Covid-19 pandemic and are used by people, especially the poor and daily wage workers.

Of the 101 Basthi Dawakhanas to be established in the second phase, 14 have already been completed.

Work is underway at 36 sites, a senior city administration official said.

The state government started Basthi Dawakhanas as a way to provide quality healthcare to the poor in ULB. In addition to free consultations, these medical institutions also distributed free medicines to patients.

The urban poor can also get free access to over 60 different diagnostic tests at Basthi Dawakhanas through the state government’s T-Diagnostic initiative. As part of the T-Diagnostics programme, patient samples collected at various Basthi Dawakhanas are sent to the nearest central diagnostic center for processing.
