Amaravati: Three people were killed in an explosion at a drug factory in Gouripatnam, East Godavari district of Andhra Pradesh.
District tax collector K Madhavi Latha announced an ex-gratia payment of Rs 2 million each to the relatives of the deceased.
Preliminary evidence suggests that management errors contributed to the explosion.
Further investigation of the case is ongoing.
Police sources said the accident happened at Vision Drugs Private Limited in Gouripatnam when staff were dealing with technical issues.
“There was a technical problem with the pipes that recycled the water and chemicals. The deputy manager, supervisor and chemist were working when the pipe exploded due to the heat and pressure,” said a police officer involved in the investigation.
The blast was so powerful that shards of shattered glass and tinfoil flew in all directions, impaling three people.
Other workers in the department rushed the three to a hospital in Kovvuru, but they died by then.
Home Affairs Minister T Vanitha visited the hospital and questioned officials about the accident.
