Hyderabad: Since its launch in 2014-15, Telangana’s flagship free dialysis program for Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) patients has reached a unique milestone by completing 5 million dialysis sessions.
The Telangana government’s initiative to provide life-saving dialysis for chronic kidney disease patients has fetched a staggering Rs. 7 billion for maintenance and 5 million dialysis treatments free of charge.
On Tuesday, Health Minister T Harish Rao said, “The free dialysis scheme is Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao’s dream project. Even today, poor patients cannot afford regular dialysis in private hospitals. The Chief Minister’s vision is to ensure this Patients in this category receive state government support for lifelong renal care.”
Before statehood, there were only 3 major government-run free dialysis centers in Telangana. Since then, between 2015 and 2022, the Telangana state government has added 82 free dialysis facilities across the state.
Harish Rao added that the idea is to ensure free dialysis facilities in all assembly constituencies.
