6th December will always be a black day for Indian democracy, says Owaisi

Hyderabad: AIMIM Chairman Asaduddin Owaisi has said that December 6 will always be a black day for Indian democracy.

On the 30th anniversary of the demolition of the Babri Mosque in Ayodhya, the Hyderabad MP tweeted that the desecration and demolition of the Babri Mosque is a symbol of injustice.

“Those responsible for its destruction have never been convicted. We will not forget it, and we will ensure that future generations remember it too,” he wrote.

Dr Asma Zehra Tayeba, women activist and member of the All India Muslim Personal Law Council, also said the demolition of the Babri Mosque will always be remembered. “We will not forget. We will remember this day. ‘Yaume Shahadat’. Masajid is the central market of the Muslim community. The collapse of the Babri Mosque and the situation of Muslims in the past 30 years requires reflection,” she tweeted .

Meanwhile, the anniversary of the demolition in Hyderabad was quiet amid tight police security.

Unlike in the past, neither the All India Majlis (AIMIM) nor other major Muslim organizations called for a shutdown or celebration of “Black Day”.

However, some smaller religious groups are calling on people to mark this “black day” by closing their businesses.

In the old city of Hyderabad, few Muslim shopkeepers closed their doors, while black flags were hoisted in some places to mark the day.

Police have stepped up security in public sensitive areas of the Old Town as a precaution.

A day before the anniversary, a group of women in the Saeedabad area of the city organized a prayer meeting. They described December 6 as a dark day in Indian history and prayed for the restoration of the Babri Mosque.

The women made it clear that a mosque will always be a mosque. They exude confidence that one day things will change and the Babri Mosque will be rebuilt in its place.
