The Northeast Colonial Federation of Secunderabad on Friday urged residents and local residents’ welfare associations to raise objections
Hyderabad: The Secunderabad Northeast Colonial Federation urged residents and local housing welfare associations on Friday to object to the recent road closure notice issued by the Secunderabad Canton Board (SCB).
The federation, which has been leading the protest against the closure of the SCB’s roads by the Local Military Authority (LMA), said: “The roads are closed. Although the officials are very aware of the internal closure of the roads to the people from Sainikpuri, Vayupuri, Dr AS Rao Nagar, Yapral, Balaji Nagar and the importance of people from areas like Kowkur coming into Rajiv Rahadari, but it’s still happening.”
The Federation has also published templates for individuals (https://bit.ly/3E0NwT3) and RWA (https://bit.ly/3hcdZ6Z) to present their objections.
In October, Standard Chartered Bank issued two notices to solicit public comments and objections on the closure of 6 roads including Ammuguda Road (500m), Byam Road (500m), Albain Road (700m), Empress Road (900m) and Protenee Road (500m) ) and Richardson Road (300m).
The first notice on October 18 said they planned to close the 6 roads that were already closed, the federation added that after a public outcry, the SCB issued a second notice on October 25 as a correction, acknowledging that These 6 roads are closed. However, the notice seeks public objections and suggestions.
The process of issuing such notices is illegal because the law and the Department of Defense make it clear that this practice of soliciting people’s objections must happen before the road is closed, not after. The federation said the law did not provide for normalisation of past closures and roads must first be reopened.
