New Delhi: Amazon said on Thursday that starting August 2023, it will shut down its educational technology product called Amazon Academy in India and will fully refund registration fees for the current academic batch.
The e-commerce giant officially launched Academy (formerly known as JEE Ready) last year.
“At Amazon, we think big, experiment, and invest in new ideas to delight customers. We also constantly evaluate the progress and potential of our products and services to deliver value to customers, and we make regular adjustments based on these evaluations,” a company spokesperson told IANS .
“After evaluation, we have decided to terminate Amazon Academy. We are winding down the program in phases to accommodate existing customers,” the spokesperson added.
Operations at Amazon Academy will cease beginning in August 2023, when existing batches will complete their test preparation modules.
Customers will have online access to the full course material for an extended period of one year until October 2024.
The company said it remained committed to serving its customers in the country and the decision would have no impact on its services.
Last January, amid the pandemic, the company launched Amazon Academy to help students prepare for the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) for engineering colleges.
Online preparation provides the required practice routines for JEE with curated study materials, live lectures and comprehensive assessments in Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry.
The service supports active learning through live lessons, helping students strengthen their JEE preparation as they can interact with expert teachers, learn concepts and clarify doubts in real-time.
Bringing more discipline and rigor to their approach to study, it will offer scheduled lessons, daily practice questions and regular tests, starting with a crash course for the upcoming JEE Main.
