The decision is an important step because it will benefit the state’s 15,000 home guards and provide them with 5% to 25% category retention on constable appointments.
Amaravati: For the first time in Andhra Pradesh history, appointments will be given for home guards in police appointments.
The Ministry of Home Affairs has issued an order amending the Andhra Pradesh Police Rules, 1999 to preserve constable posts as the state government prepares to fill 6,500 posts. The decision is an important step because it will benefit the state’s 15,000 home guards and provide them with 5% to 25% category retention on constable appointments.
In addition to this, the rules of the police recruitment process have been changed and reservations have been made for more home guards.
Bookings have been made for Police Department Home Guard for Civil, Armed Reserve (AR), APSP, SAR CPL, Constable, Communications, Assembly Electrician, Mechanic and Driver positions.
Posts of police officers and men in Civil Affairs, AR and Communications have been retained. Male constable positions are filled by the APSP, SAR CPL, fitter electrician, mechanic and driver categories.
Soon after the YSRCP government came to power, Chief Minister YS Jaganmohan Reddy in October 2019 raised the salary of home guards from Rs 18,000 to Rs 21,300 per month.
