New Delhi: Apple led the Indian premium segment with a 40 percent share, followed by Samsung and OnePlus, which recorded a record-high share of shipments in the country in the September quarter.
Apple’s share of the Indian smartphone market reached an all-time high of 5% during the quarter, driven by a strong channel ahead of the festive season.
For the first time, the iPhone (iPhone 13) topped the quarterly smartphone shipments chart in India, according to Counterpoint Research.
“In terms of price range, the high-end segment (Rs 30,000 and above) reached the highest share of 12 per cent during the quarter,” said research analyst Shilpi Jain.
“iPhone 13 becomes the top smartphone model in Q3 2022, a first for Apple in India,” she noted.
According to business intelligence platform Tofler, Apple India posted a net profit of Rs 1,263 crore in the current fiscal year, up 3% year-on-year, on a massive 45% increase in sales.
Not only are high-end new generation Apple phones going off the shelves in India, older generation models like the iPhone XR, 11, 12 and 13 are now popular among those who can’t afford a new phone thanks to attractive deals and plan.
Samsung is second in the premium segment and even leads the mobile (feature phone + smartphone) market with an 18% share.
It also remains the best-selling 5G smartphone brand in India.
OnePlus grew 35% year over year in the third quarter, driven by the Nord CE 2 series and Nord 2T.
The brand maintains its third position in the premium segment.
OnePlus led the Rs 20,000 to 30,000 price range driven by its Nord portfolio.
The company also captured the second spot in India’s 5G smartphone shipments in the third quarter of 2022, according to the report.
