Hyderabad: Rythu Bandhu Samithi chairman Palla Rajeshwar Reddy said here on Tuesday that the BJP government is canceling the PM Kisan scheme amid the successful implementation of the Rythu Bandhu scheme by the state government, besides asking farmers to return their installments.
Replicating Telangana’s Rythu Bandhu scheme, the BJP government launched the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana scheme in February 2019 to gain political mileage. However, in less than two years, the true face of the BJP government on the welfare of farmers has surfaced. He said the number of beneficiaries of the scheme was being gradually reduced from 115 million to 3.5 million.
Under the guise of ineligibility, the number of beneficiaries was cut for various reasons, including payment of income tax, all institutional landowners, former and current holders of constitutional offices, professionals such as doctors, engineers, lawyers, retirement Pensions of Rs 10,000 and above per month for pensioners.
What’s more, all “disqualified” farmers were required to refund the installments received under the PM Kisan scheme. A special bank account was created for this purpose, he said.
The number of beneficiaries declined significantly in several countries. In Maharashtra fell 65.9%, Madhya Pradesh (99.9%), Bihar (91.8%), Gujarat (55%), Andhra Pradesh (49.4%), Tamil Nadu ( 50%) and Chattisgarh (94.7%)), he claimed.
Farmers in Uttar Pradesh have taken to the streets to demand that the government scrap anti-farmer policies. He noted that 1,800 farmers in Maharashtra committed suicide in the past six months.
“While the Modi government is installing electricity meters for the pumps, the Telangana government is providing farmers with free electricity. This is the promise of Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao,” Reddy said, adding that he would support Samyuktha Kisan Morcha’s protest Activity.
