Amaravati: Chief Minister YS Jaganmohan Reddy said on Thursday that former Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu had done so little for the Polavaram project during his administration that he did not even deserve to name it.
While discussing the Polavaram project during the parliamentary budget session here, he pointed out that the yellow media had published false reports that the Polavaram project was done by Chandrababu.
“Chandrababu didn’t even say Polavaram’s name between 1995 and 2014 and looted Polavaram’s funds when he came to power. The TDP government started with projects that brought it big money and then later with projects that did not pay much. Spillway project in foundation stage itself was abandoned and cofferdam work started. Huge cavities were found in the cofferdam and even the approach works were not completed. Is it possible to build the cofferdam before the spillway works are completed?” he wondered, pointing to TDP’s Reckless decisions resulted in damage to the Diaphragm Wall.
Jagan also recalled that it was his late father YSR who initiated the Polavaram project and as his son he will complete it. He disclosed that due to reverse tendering, the government can save Rs 800 crore and complete 48 gates and spillways for upper and lower cofferdam works. He said the spillway could control the situation even during the Godavari flood and at present, the government has the capacity to supply water to the Godavari delta.
