Hyderabad: Cyberabad police have busted a major human trafficking ring involving multiple brokers and thousands of victims from different countries. The police arrested 17 people involved in the case and seized 34 mobile phones and ecstasy pills.
Cyberabad Police Chief Stephen Raveendra said the Anti-Human Trafficking Unit (AHTU) of Cyberabad Police together with other special operations teams and local police arrested 17 people in connection with the case. Police conducted the operation for about two months.
“According to our analysis, approximately 14,000 women have been trafficked by organizers in the last three to four years. Prostitution is carried out both offline and online through websites, mobile-based applications and social media platforms,” said Stephen Raveendra.
During the investigation, the police found that the campaign was carried out in about 20 hotels and numerous OYO rooms in the city. “The gangs kept in touch through WhatsApp groups and arranged travel and accommodation for clients and victims,” the official said.
