Hyderabad: Cyberabad She Teams appears to be readily available as victims of sexual harassment use WhatsApp Messenger to seek help.
Of the 98 complaints lodged in November, 74 were lodged with She Teams via WhatsApp. The platform has become a bridge between the police and female complainants.
According to the police, a total of 98 complaints were received during this period, most of them via WhatsApp, another 13 were from the Women’s Safety Department and nine were received directly, via email and QR code scanning. There is 1 case.
“Our aim and effort is to ensure that no victim fears stigma and drops a complaint against the perpetrator. The multiple ways of filing a complaint, especially online with the advent of WhatsApp, has made the complaints process much easier for victims. Easy,” said a senior official.
Among all the complainants, 33 were involved in phone harassment; 14 cases of blackmail, 6 cases of stalking, 12 cases of engagement derailment, 3 cases of derailment on social media platforms, 6 cases of threats, and 10 cases of obscene comments. Likewise, three complaints were about sending obscene content on WhatsApp, three were about misconduct, two were about flashing and one was about love matters.

She Teams contacts complainants at their point of contact to lodge a complaint. According to an official statement, all complaints are acted on and dealt with on the merits.
Officials stated that after verifying the facts of the complaints, 29 cases were filed, including 4 FIRs and 25 minor cases. As many as 126 people were counseled and warned to change their behaviour. During the same period, in addition to stopping a child marriage, the teams also carried out baiting operations and arrested 31 people on the spot, which was handled as a minor case.
