Hyderabad: The Election Commission of India (ECI) has sought energy minister Jagga after BJP leader Kapilavai Dileep Kumar complained that the minister violated the popular code of conduct in Munughod Explanation by G Jagadish Reddy.
The ECI has asked the minister to respond to its notification by 3pm on Saturday, or a “decision not to provide him with any further reference”.
In his complaint, the BJP leader accused the energy minister of saying in a speech in the Munugod parliamentary constituency that all welfare schemes would be halted if people did not vote for competing candidates.
The ECI then sought a report from Chief Electoral Officer Telangana and obtained a transcript of the minister’s speech in which he said Modi refused to provide a pension of Rs 3,000 for the disabled, as well as benefits such as pension, Rythu Bandhu and 24-hour free electricity continued , they should vote for TRS.
The ECI initially observed that the Minister’s making such a statement violated the Model Code of Conduct and asked the Minister to explain his position on the matter by Saturday.
