Hyderabad: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate Komatireddy Rajgopal Reddy’s defeat in Munugode was attributed to poor support for some of his Mandals in the constituency where he was expected to gain a majority.
Both Rajgopal Reddy and BJP were pinning their hopes on the Choutuppal, Munugode and Gattupal mandals to win, but all the calculations went wrong and in fact TRS candidate K Prabhakar Reddy was ahead in these mandals. Rajgopal Reddy himself admitted that he had high hopes for the Choutuppal mandal, where there were around 30,000 votes. But TRS also stole the majority there.
While the early days of the campaign showed that the BJP had the upper hand in Choutuppal, the campaign of KT Rama Rao, president of TRS work who is also in charge of Mandal, changed the whole situation, with support shifting towards the ruling party. Even at Munugode and Gattupal Mandal, the results fell short of expectations, with TRS candidates building clear leads.
The constituency’s Chotupal and Sanstana Rayanapur Mandar have about 90,000 voters out of 240,000 voters, and their voters determine the fate of the candidates. TRS has done well in both places and has led the trend in its favor.
