disease: At least 35 people were killed and dozens missing after a suspension bridge crash in Morbi, Gujarat state on Sunday night, Morby City Council CEO SV Zala said in a shocking announcement that the bridge was open to the public , but no fitness certificate.
Speaking to local media, Zara said: “The bridge has been closed to the public for a long time… Seven months ago, a private company was awarded a renovation and maintenance contract and the bridge was reopened to the public on October 26. Open (Gujarati New Year) by private company. No fitness certificate issued by Nagar Palika.”
He even claimed that the company may have obtained a fitness certificate from an engineering firm, but so far has not submitted it to the city. He claims the company reopened the bridge for the public on its own without notifying civic agencies.
Former Deputy Chief Minister Nitin Patel also told the media that usually when a bridge is constructed or renovated, before opening, a technical assessment must be carried out, and the bearing capacity must be tested, and then a certificate of use issued by the relevant authorities can be obtained, and only in this way, Bridges are open to the public.
Built around 150 years ago by Morby ruler Sir Vagaji Thaker, the drawbridge is 233 meters long and 4.6 feet wide.
