Hyderabad: Works related to the city’s Formula E race are underway with the Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) to construct a 35,000-capacity metal auditorium, pedestrian bridges and strategic temporary structures for emergency response teams in and around NTR Marg.
These works are in addition to the development of a 2.7km circuit around Hussain Sagar, which PV Narasimha Rao Marg is preparing to meet the stringent requirements imposed by the FIA and FE regulations. Formula E cars are capable of traveling at speeds of 300 kmph on street circuits – specifically blacktop roads, which, unlike Formula 1 cars, require special tracks.
The program will complete track-related work in November and will see live testing of the track during the Indian Racing League (IRL) in Hyderabad on November 19-20. December 10-11. With 22 cars racing and cornering at breakneck speed during the FE Grand Prix, HMDA officials say the safety of drivers and spectators will be paramount.
“Special safety equipment such as tech pro barriers, debris fences and other associated track infrastructure are being built around the track to meet stringent safety requirements,” an HMDA official said ahead of the grand event in February 2023. , the IRL race will be the precursor to the Formula E Grand Prix. The two races will be held within 3 weeks, which will allow a thorough check of the track’s readiness.
The championship will prove that Hyderabad is recognized as a global city along with other cities such as London, Paris, Monaco and Berlin that are also on the track. The event will also demonstrate that Hyderabad is focusing on the sustainability and promotion of electric vehicle technology, a cornerstone of Formula E competition.
