he is not thin: Regional medical and health officials are preparing to organize the second phase of the “Kanti Velugu” program in the region from December 18. As part of these 45 teams, members of each team will conduct eye screenings in the region.
“We will be recruiting 45 ophthalmic assistants on a contract basis and the recruitment notice has been issued,” District Medical Health Officer (DMHO) Dr Sambashiva Rao told ‘Telangana today‘.
“We plan to conduct eye examinations for at least 50% of the population by conducting special 100-day camps in every village in the region. We are taking all measures to prevent errors or accidents in the ‘Kanti Velugu’ programme,” he added . Those who were given glasses during the first phase will be screened again at the camp, it is said.
At least 300 people are being screened every day as part of a special programme. Each team will have a Medical Officer, Supervisor, Ophthalmic Assistant, Data Entry Operator, Asha Staff and ANM.
“A few days after the eye screening, those whose sight has recovered will be handed over to power specs,” the DMHO said, adding that those with other problems would be referred to the district hospital or the district eye hospital in Warangal for surgery or other treatments.
In 2018, a total of 398,000 people were screened at the camps during the first phase of the Kanti Velugu program in the region. According to official sources, a total of 19,07,005 people were tested in the camps in the former Warangal area in 2018, and 255,413 people were fitted with reading glasses.
It is said that nearly 300 people go to the regional eye hospital for examination every day, and 30 operations are performed every day. It is estimated that nearly 1.5 million people in the former Warangal region suffer from eye-related problems.
