Hyderabad: “The first thing I do when I come to any town is to ask if it has a bookstore.” – This quote from Robert Frost is printed on a custom cloth bag for the new buzzing bookstore “Luna” is what it expects – a vibrant urban bookstore culture.
Started by Sudhakar sisters Shilpa and Sapna, this cozy and peaceful independent bookstore is named ‘Luna’, which means moon, and features an eclectic selection of books on shelves and tables in three rooms.
“We saw readers have moved to a more digital space, but we wanted to see if we could provide the kind of physical browsing experience we grew up with. While bookstores in other cities are still thriving, we think we’ll be at sea Try Deraba,” Shilpa said.
Coming from a family of voracious readers, Shilpa curates the books himself. This place has a variety of books, from fiction to non-fiction, from history to underdog genres like crime, climate and environment, and more hidden gems for young and veteran writers.
Shilpa added that the store won’t sell books online, and Shilpa said the store is for readers who want to experience the joys of a brick-and-mortar bookstore, browsing the neat shelves and enjoying the book-buying experience.
“Brick-and-mortar bookstores have some fun — meeting book friends, browsing books in person, having discussions, and making new discoveries all the time. Don’t rush; the goal is to be in the books,” Shilpa feels.
She said they found a lot of readers in the city and hoped that as the culture developed, more of these bookstores would pop up in the city, adding that she was very pleased with the city’s response to the new bookstores.
Shilpa, who has worked in investment and finance, added that they came up with the idea in June this year and were able to execute it within a few months. The store at 63A Jubilee Hills Road is only two weeks old, but already packed with book lovers from all over the city.
