Hyderabad: The Hyderabad Municipal Water and Sewerage Board (HMWS&SB), as part of its digitization efforts, will this month launch a mobile app for social auditing, time management and water quality.
Other digital advances at HMWS&SB include handing over tablet PCs to the Security Protocol Team (SPT) and strengthening its IT department. In addition to the Social Audit app, more mobile apps for quick resolution of grievances, billing and other services will be launched in the coming months.
“Employees are being thoroughly trained on the app and its use,” an HMWS&SB official said. At present, the social audit APP is being tested. After it goes online, the APP will collect detailed information such as water supply time and water quality of about 6,000 people in each water supply cycle.
“Crews from various departments, including Quality Control & Vigilance, are testing water quality and duration at multiple locations and the mobile application will be officially launched this month,” HMWS&SB officials said.
Meanwhile, SPT has received tablets to inspect projects under construction by HMWS&SB, including the construction of the Sewage Treatment Plant (STP).
“Details of sites that did not follow safety measures are uploaded through tabs and apps installed in them. Locations and photo evidence are also uploaded by SPT and contractors are penalized based on the evidence,” an official said.
Currently, there are six SPTs, with each team comprising a manager, a constable and a home guard, with drivers led by the chief security officer. These teams review every work carried out by HMWS and SB to check that safety measures are in place in accordance with safety protocols such as barricading, ensuring proper lighting and installing radium indicators.
