Mohammad Hussamuddin, Gaurav Solanki and Biswamitra Chongtham take overall victory

Hisar: Mohammad Hussamuddin, Gaurav Solanki and Biswamitra Chongtham claimed overall victory on day two of the sixth elite men’s national boxing championship in Hisar on Sunday.
Two-time CWG bronze medalist Hussamuddin (57kg) took on Bulen Buragohain from Assam on behalf of the Service Sports Control Board (SSCB). The SSCB boxer was in control throughout the bout and showed his attacking prowess and quick moves to win 5-0 by unanimous decision.
The 2022 Asian bronze medalist will face Mizoram’s Laraomama in the round of 16 on Tuesday. Haryana’s Solanki (60kg) is the 2018 Commonwealth Games champion, competing with Himachal Pradesh’s Navraj Chauhan.
In a tough match, Solanki showed great grit and energy to beat his opponent 5-2 after round review. He will now play in Tuesday’s round of 16 match against Madhya Pradesh’s Harundra Singh. Hussamuddin’s SSCB team-mate Biswamitra (51kg) also performed well against Odisha’s N Madhaba.
His superior technical ability allowed him to dominate the match from the start and prevailed in the first RSC. Biswamitra will face Andhra Pradesh’s Prabhudas Yadla ahead of the quarter-finals on Tuesday.
2021 Asian Championships bronze medalist Varinder Singh (60kg) represented the Railway Sports Control Board (RSCB) over Chandigarh’s Rahul. Varinder won 5-0 and will face SSCB’s Ibrahim Mohmmed in Tuesday’s round of 16.
Another RSCB boxer, Ankit Narwal (63.5kg), also had a powerful victory over Pondicherry’s Arun Kumar after a referee’s stop (RSC) in the first round.
The 2019 Asian Juniors silver medalist will face the winner of Karnataka’s Karan BK and Uttar Pradesh’s Ratandeep Sharma in the pre-season on Tuesday.
A record six-time Asian medalist representing Assam, Shiva Thapa, will start his campaign from the round of 16 stage on Monday as he takes on Delhi’s Jaswinder Singh.
A total of 386 boxers in 13 different weight classes took part in the championship.
