Hyderabad: Relatives of 51-year-old brain-dead victim Bethi Kumara Swamy, a television mechanic from Khammam, have donated seven of the deceased’s organs as part of the state-run Jeevandan organ donation programme.
On April 29, Kumara Swamy developed severe headache and nausea and was rushed to a local private hospital in Khammam. He was later transferred to Yashoda Hospital in Malakpet, where he remained in intensive care for three days.
As Kumara Swamy’s condition did not improve, neurologists at Yashoda Hospital had no choice but to declare the TV mechanic brain dead.
After receiving grief counseling, Kumara Swamy’s wife Nethi Haritha and his two children decided to donate the brain-dead victim’s organs.
Retrieve seven organs including two kidneys, liver, two lungs, and two corneas, and distribute them to patients in need.
