Hyderabad: Hyderabad Traffic Police launched a special operation on Monday to check triple riding and reverse driving violations in Hyderabad. On the first day of the special session, the traffic police filed a total of 3,281 cases of retrograde traffic and 670 cases of three-way violations.
Police Joint Commissioner (Traffic) AV Ranganath said the city will continue driving in the next few weeks. He added that he started driving after several fatal accidents were reported due to the dangerous practice of three-person riding and reverse driving.
“Initially, we have started focusing on 25 locations located within the boundaries of different traffic police stations in the city. Later, we will expand this initiative to other areas,” he said.
During the special operation, the traffic police also collected pending challenges in the vehicles of the captured motorists. Traffic police impose a fine of Rs 1,700 for driving in the wrong direction and Rs 1,200 for riding three times as part of special driving.
The traffic police will register those who drive in the wrong direction under Articles 119/177 and 184 of the MV Act, while those caught triple riding will be registered under Article 128/184 r/w 177 of the MV Act.
