Hyderabad: To reduce road accidents involving drunk drivers reported after midnight, Hyderabad City Traffic Police now conducts checks between midnight and 3am
Another Police Commissioner (Traffic) G Sudheer Babu said the traffic police station was directed to conduct frequent checks between 12am and 3am following a road accident late at night. The task force is identifying hotspots with a history of road accidents, particularly involving drunk drivers, and conducting checks.
“The task force is headed by an inspector or a deputy inspector. Anyone caught is recorded and presented in court. The message is clear, the traffic police are on guard 24/7 and people should not assume that if they Then come out and drive and get away,” G Sudheer Babu said.
Traffic police have identified several hotspots in the city with high traffic of drink-driving due to the presence of hotels, bars and pubs. “The entire process of the DUI check was videotaped to refute the allegations of those caught. So far this year, Hyderabad traffic police have arrested 13,431 people for drink driving, sent 1,317 to jail and 243 had their driving licenses revoked. Road transport authority officials permanently suspended the licenses of 53 people based on court orders. A total fine of Rs 3,21,39,060 is imposed on those registered for drink driving.
Those caught must attend counseling sessions at the Goshamahal and Begumpet Traffic Training Institute.
