Hyderabad: Arjun Singgh Baran and Kartk D Nishandar, the creative duo behind “Taali”, said veteran actor Sushmita Sen was fully committed to the image of activist Gauri Sawant in the web series “Taali”.
Sushmita Sen caused a stir when she released her debut poster as transgender activist Gauri Sawant in the web series “Taali” on October 6. The biographical program of the writing duo is now complete and will be released shortly.
There’s already a huge buzz that Sushmita has outgrown herself as the fiery activist whose PIL (public interest litigation) led to the Supreme Court’s landmark 2014 decision recognizing transgender people as a third gender .
Arjun and Kartk recall the former Miss Universe’s enthusiasm for immersing herself in Gauri’s life, saying: “It took her about six months to nail down the script, and she knew it by heart. So during filming she was already working with the script. Being consistent, if we added or changed a line, she would tell us right away that it wasn’t. She did her homework very well.”
The pair also shared that Sushmita had read the script at least four or five times and really lived with the characters until she became one of them. They added, “Acting coach Atul Mongia helped her fine-tune the transformation and director Ravi Jadhav guided her in getting the nuances of the Marathi language right.
She also works really hard on voice modulation. She put her heart and soul into ‘Taali’ and today we can’t imagine anyone else playing Gauri but her. “
Directed by national award-winning filmmaker Ravi Jadhav, ‘Taali’ will explore Gauri’s significant life – from her childhood, her transformation, and her contribution to revolutionizing India’s transgender movement.
